Spotify’s Siri shortcut on iOS 27 depends on Apple Intelligence learning your habits

Eligible Spotify users can ask Siri to play music without naming Spotify. The shortcut relies on learned preference, with no Music default-app control to lock it in.

Spotify listeners with Apple Intelligence can now ask Siri for music without adding “on Spotify” to every request. Spotify’s support documentation gives “play my Discover Weekly playlist” as an example of the new phrasing, covering requests for songs, artists, albums, playlists and podcasts.

The convenience has tight access conditions. Spotify says the feature requires iOS 27 or later, Apple Intelligence enabled, an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, English, and a supported country or region. Apple began its iOS 27 and Siri AI rollout on September 14, 2026, describing the English release as a beta in its Newsroom announcement.

This is a learned Siri behavior, not a setting that makes Spotify the phone’s permanent music service. Spotify says Siri learns a listener’s preference through use, and tells users to add “on Spotify” when Siri starts playing from another app. Apple’s iPhone user guide still lists Music among categories that cannot be changed in Default Apps, leaving no direct switch to correct that choice.

The capability also does not reach every Spotify customer. Spotify’s support page says legacy Siri still needs the app name, while Siri with Apple Intelligence can infer it. Apple has separately said Siri AI is unavailable on iPhone and iPad in the EU during its dispute over Digital Markets Act interoperability requirements, so an eligible Swedish Spotify subscriber in the bloc still has to say “on Spotify.”
