Apple shipped iOS 27.2 this week, and the update adds Apple Pencil support to the iPhone Duo, the company's first foldable phone. Apple had promised the feature for "later this year," and the release lands with about two months of 2026 left on the calendar.

The update also adds a feature called Edge Light. When the Duo is open in video call apps, the inner display's edges glow to add fill light on the user's face. The feature works with the device's 7.6 inch inner screen, the larger of the Duo's two displays.

Apple Pencil support on the Duo covers note taking and markup across both the 7.6 inch inner display and the 5.4 inch outer screen, according to Apple's release notes for iOS 27.2. The pairing and handoff between screens uses the same iOS 27 multitasking controls Apple built for the Duo at launch, so a sketch started on the outer screen can continue on the inner display without restarting the app.

App support for the Duo's folding layout remains uneven. Netflix, Prime Video and Microsoft Outlook already render properly across both screen sizes, adapting layouts when the phone unfolds. Other major apps have not updated their interfaces for the inner display's aspect ratio, so they run as a stretched or letterboxed version of their phone layout instead of using the extra space.

iOS 27.2 is a free update, available now through Settings on any iPhone Duo running iOS 27. Apple Pencil models sold for the standard iPhone and iPad lineup pair with the Duo under this update, with no separate stylus required for the foldable.
