Almost All of Amazon's New Echo Lineup Is Already Shipping. One Piece Isn't.

Amazon's October 28 launch put four of five new Alexa devices on sale immediately, with the 16-inch Echo Show 16 held to preorder and a ship date that outlets can't agree on.

Amazon unveiled five new Alexa devices on October 28, 2026, and four of them ship immediately. The fifth, the Echo Show 16, is preorder only right now, which is the exact nuance behind the headline that almost everything from this launch is already buyable.

The lineup: a redesigned Echo Dot at $99.99 ($109.99 for the Kids edition), the first Dot to add Thread support alongside Zigbee and Matter, turning it into a genuine smart-home hub rather than just a speaker, according to AppleInsider's coverage of the launch. An Echo Studio with Home Camera bundles a security camera into the spatial-audio speaker for $249.99; the camera-less Echo Studio keeps selling at $219.99. Echo Time, a new smart alarm clock, runs $199.99 ($209.99 for Kids). A standalone Alexa Photo Frame joins the lineup too, distinct from the photo-frame mode Echo Show screens have carried since 2021. The Echo Show 16 itself is a 16-inch display Amazon says is about 40 percent thinner than the Echo Show 15, with a 13-megapixel night-vision camera, built-in Fire TV, and an optional 'Nanomatte' glare-reducing panel. Base price is $499.99, or $569.99 with Nanomatte, and it's the only device in the group still waiting on a ship date.

The Echo Studio with Home Camera is the device worth watching for what it doesn't confirm. Amazon's past cameras have lived in dedicated devices like the discontinued Echo Look or in screened Echo Show units, not in a non-screen speaker. Whether the new Studio ships with a physical shutter or lens cover isn't stated in Amazon's October 28 newsroom post announcing the lineup. The Mozilla Foundation's Privacy Not Included project previously rated the camera-less Echo Studio 'super creepy,' pointing to Amazon's $5.8 million FTC settlement over employee access to Ring camera footage. A camera-equipped version of the same speaker inherits that history before a single unit reaches a living room.

All five devices run on Alexa+, Amazon's subscription-based generative-AI assistant, which finished rolling out free to US Prime members on February 4, 2026, according to Bloomberg's coverage of that launch. Standalone access costs $19.99 a month. Amazon has said Alexa+ trial users sign up for Prime at a 25 percent higher rate than non-trial users, a figure that points to where the real commercial logic of this hardware sits: not in the margin on a $99 speaker, but in the subscription funnel behind it.

Shipping dates for the one preorder item split across outlets. 9to5Toys reported a December 16 ship date for the Echo Show 16; other coverage of the same October 28 announcement left the date as 'later this year.' Amazon's own newsroom post doesn't resolve the discrepancy, so for now the only Echo Show 16 units in customers' hands are display models on a store shelf.
